“If it’s meant to be, it will happen”
A year ago if you had asked what I would be doing this time next year, I would have probably answered “hopefully a graduate job in the city, maybe in politics, maybe in business or accountancy”. Well here I am, a year later and about to start a master’s in Sport Marketing. Crazy how during the last year I have finally worked out what I want to do in my life, and having no experience in sports communication or marketing, doing a masters was my best option. However, without doing a Year Abroad, I would have had that extra year to work out exactly what I wanted to do. Instead of starting a masters, I could have graduated a year earlier and already be working in a completely different sector.

It really is crazy how things work out in life. If I hadn’t have had my heart set on a year abroad in Canada in my first and second year of university, my life could be very different now.
Over the four years of my International Relations degree, I have learnt political theory, British politics, how the EU works, corruption, when states go to war (and why they don’t), and Canadian politics. For the next year, I will be learning all about Sports Marketing, and hopefully building up the connections and work experience to be able to enter a job this time next year that I really want.
I’m excited, and slightly nervous about this next chapter, but I am ready for the final step in my education. I won’t be someone doing a PhD, but I know deep down that a masters is what I need, especially as my degree is not in media, sports, journalism, or communication.
So here’s to the next 12 months, and MSc Sports Marketing!
