‘The gladdest moment in human life, me thinks, is a departure into unknown lands’
Just two years, when my A-level grades were not as a great as I had hoped, and going from the dreaded process of Clearing, while thinking I was just going to go to University for just three years to study Economics, I had no idea I would choose a course that would take me abroad. Flash forward two years, and studying International Relations, I am about to embark on my third year of university, abroad in Canada.
For me Canada is the unknown, yes I have been to the US, but never to Canada; although it has always been on the bucket-list of places that I must visit. So tomorrow, I am off to the unknown/Toronto before heading off to Trent University.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t shitting myself, because I really am shitting myself. As I write this, I can feel my heart rate increase. On the other hand, I am super excited about what the next year holds for me; the places I will see; the experiences that will occur; the people that I will meet; and the memories that should last with me for the rest of my life.
Now, who knows what direction it will go, but I am hoping for the best and I’m willing to put my all into this year. Whether that is joining societies and trying out new sports; or learning something new and different. However, there still is a million and one thoughts currently going through my head.
If there isn’t a blog post, or an instagram photo of a hockey match, poutine, maple syrup or snow by Christmas, then something has probably gone wrong. Who knows what the next year will bring, but my mum excepts be to bring back a Canadian man at Christmas (and know she doesn’t mean Justin Bieber or Shawn Mendes) and a have a touch of a Canadian accent, considering there is like 18 of us living on one floor!
Well it’s a goodbye to England, and a hello to Canada!
Have you ever been to Canada, or studied abroad?
